Willy Weizenbier
Hi, I got gifted a "low carb draught" brewkit. My Droid began the new brew yesterday with a target temp of 18 degrees celcius. Woke up this morning less than 24 hours after the start, and the Droid has a target temp of 12 degrees celcius. Is this normal? Is it possible the brewkit is out of date, or the yeast wasn't refrigerated, and the Droid is trying to compensate somehow? Confused... Cheers! Thagomizer
@Willy Weizenbier: Welcome to the forum. Those temperatures are about normal for a Lager. The initial 18C temperature is the propagation phase designed to kick-start the fermentation process. After about a day, the temperature drops to the fermentation stage. For a lager, 12C is about appropriate. 18C is a tad low for propagation, (mine is usually around 20C). But different brewprints vary by a few degrees. In another day or so, you should be notified that fermentation has been detected - or you can just watch for bubbles in the sight glass. 🙂 Happy brewing. 1
Willy Weizenbier
Thanks, and that's a relief! 😊 I'd been looking at some posts about ales and was worried because the ales seem to ferment around 17-22 degrees. Good to know about the lagers now. I'll keep an eye on it. Cheers for the help!
