Gillies Brewing
I've embarked on a new brewing journey - attempting to grow hops. Again my delusions of grandeur are showing, because we're at the tail end of the planting season, and although I'm back down in Bris Vegas, that's still significantly higher latitude than the traditional hop growing climate. We are also at the tail end of the season. I bought 2 kinds of rhizomes - Victoria (not Vic Secret) and Mt Hood, hoping for a good lager one and a good IPA one. Not a lot of info about Victoria out there but apparently it's a sister hop to Galaxy. I'm growing in containers in the method shown in this popular article https://byo.com/article/growing-hops-in-containers/ The Victoria ones arrived today, in good looking nick, some shoots already sprouting. Buried them today. Mt Hood should arrive early next week.
Rob Courtney
Remember back in the day seeing hops plantations all over the place in Tasmania. Given my climate is comparable should give it some thought. Wife will be stoked I am using more space for "beer things" though 1

Still a few rhizomes around on eBay, but otherwise you'll want to get in on it in August or early September next year 1
