Bottling into 1.9l growler with no co2

Hi all,

I am guessing I would use 5 x carbonation tablets for bottling into a standard 1.9l growler with a screw top for 2nd stage fermentation?

Thanks

Carl

I'd go four but five is fine. It's strange I remember reading the charts a while back and it said 1 for 500ml, which is what I have always done with Grolsch bottles but then said 2.5 carb tabs for 1 litre.

Yes, that's what I use when bottling in growlers. And you want to make sure you get those caps screwed on tight. I usually go back and give 'em an extra good twist after a few days into conditioning.

How have you gone with the flip lips and maintaining a seal?

I had a lot of inconsistency with shop bought flip top bottles. I sold those off and kept the Grolsch and with the help of a member on here @Eltham Brauhauswas able to buy new rubber seals and since then no problem. I do sometimes wonder if I had bought the replacement seals with the shop bought bottles would it have solved the issue

I thought it was 1carb drop per 330ml so I always go 1 1/2 drops per Grolsch bottle. I get the 1/2 drop by cutting a full drop with anvil type pruning shear. Very happy with the end product.

I used to go 1.5 and then cut back to one, end product is fine with just one. Either way is fine...is there a photo of that shear?

No problem! Almost all of my brews end up in 12oz bottles with crown caps. Since I started brewing back in January, I've bottled close to 900 bottles with crown caps, with not a single failure.

Agreed, crown caps are as reliable as a decent deep sleep when you have an early start for work

Great to hear Steve. Will do my first couple of batches in the PET bottles, and perhaps migrate after that. Thanks mate.
